With 2 years of what we would consider "rapping" and 8 years of what he would consider "poetry", Bent Joshua is now ready to bring an elevated sense of lyricism to a genre lacking real talent. From the ages of 10-to-18, Joshua grew up playing the Piano and he still credits the instrument for being the much-needed creative outlet he needed during his childhood.

"I've written poem after poem after poem..."

 

Transitioning from the piano into poetry when he was in college, Bent started performing at open mics as he gained confidence in his rhyme schemes and subject matters. When a friend began uploading beats to Soundcloud in 2019, the lines between poetry and rap began to blur for him:

"It seemed to be a quite natural transition," says Joshua. "It was SoundCloud where I really started doing the whole process of writing, recording, and uploading. I just really loved the challenge of it all."  Writing raps and reciting them to his friend’s beats were like "solving a puzzle to him". If and when he could figure out the flow and rhyme pattern, along with a theme, he would describe this as, "fun and fulfilling."

Thus, it was a natural transition for him to take his poetic wordplay, knack for storytelling, and newfound confidence, put them into a metaphorical blender, and pour out his debut Hip Hop title "Own Drum EP". Bent Joshua has put everything he has learned over the last decade neatly on top of Executive producer @ZackSymes productions and his signature acoustic "unplugged" style of beats.
